NEWPORT - Allen L. Patterson, age 75, passed away Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at the Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.
He was born October 2, 1934 in St. Albans the son of the late Safford & Florence (Blake) Patterson.
Allen was a resident of Newport for the past 34 years and a former resident of Richford and Sheldon. He was employed at the Richford Grain Co. and Blue Seal Feeds starting in 1959. Then in 1970 he purchased and operated the Corner Store in Richford and then in 1972 he purchased the Sunoco Station in Richford which he operated for one year. In 1976 he worked for 3 years as a service manager at Hayes Ford in Newport. From 1984 to 1987 he worked for the Portsmouth Paper Company. He finally drove cars for area dealers until his retirement.
Allen was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 58 of No. Troy, and the Masonic Lodge # 9 of Richford. He also served as a selectman for the Town of Richford in the early 1970s and was a member of the Richford Fire Dept. during that time.
Allen was an avid baseball fan and especially enjoyed watching the Boston Red Sox.
He is survived by his daughter, Sheila Wilson and her companion Paul Michel of Enosburg Falls; his sons, Jeffrey Patterson and his wife Janet of Denver, CO, and Larry Patterson and his wife Rene of Montgomery Center; his grandchildren and their families, Tracie (Wilson) Leicher and her husband Aaron of Centreville, VA, Travis Wilson his companion Bridget Dunton and their children, Hayley & Aleigha of Franklin, Rachael Hardy her husband Larrs and their son Rohan, Isaiah Patterson, and Lisa Patterson all of Montgomery Center; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Laurette Cookson and Richard Chase both of Newport; and Dots family, Bob & Janet Smith of Concord, VT, Walter & Laurie Smith of Danville, VT, Candy & Larry Smith of Calais, VT, Bobby & Lisa Smith of North Carolina, and Tim & Patty Smith of St. Johnsbury, VT. Besides his parents, Allen was predeceased by his brothers, Robert, Richard & Wallace Patterson; a son-in-law, Daniel Wilson; and his longtime companion, Dorothy Dot Harris.
Funeral services will be held Sunday February 7, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. Interment will be held this spring in the Sheldon Village Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held Sunday from 12:00 PM until the hour of the funeral at the Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls.
