Enosburg Falls - Alton Joseph Collins, 80, a resident of School Street in Enosburg Falls, passed away on Sunday afternoon, May 2, 2010 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
Alton was born on May 31, 1929 in St. Albans, the son of Owen and Imogene (Roddy) Collins. He served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
In his earlier years, Alton resided in East Fairfield where he had served as Town Constable and Chief of the East Fairfield Fire Department. Alton worked for the State of Vermont Highway Dept. for 30 years and, earlier, for Wrights Dairy in Enosburg. A sports fan, he coached and served as an umpire, was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed hunting and bowling. He especially enjoyed and was proud of his sugarmaking. Alton was a communicant of St. Anthony/St. Georges Parish where he was very active in church affairs. He was also a member of American Legion Post # 42 in Enosburg.
Alton is survived by his mother Imogene (Roddy) Collins of Fairfax; his children Candie and Carlyle Dezotelle of Bakersfield, Steven and Bonnie (Tinker) Collins of East Fairfield, Tammy and Danny Kennison of Berkshire and Marguerite and Aaron Robtoy of Enosburg; his grandchildren, Diana Marrier and her husband Jessie, Stacy Thibault and her husband Shawn, Shannon Irish, Erica Collins and her partner Joseph Warner, Alex Kennison and his partner Tonya Combs, Emily Kennison and her partner Tony Boylan, Leigh Robtoy, Tyler Robtoy and his partner Samantha Menard; 5 great grandchildren, Brenden Marrier, Nathan Warner, Brayden Irish, Jason Choiniere, Jr. and Aaron Thibault; his siblings John and Betty Collins of Fairfax, Owen Buzz and Alice Collins of Fairfax, Thomas and Daisy Collins of Fairfax, Paul Collins of Colchester, Norbert and Audrey Collins of Essex, Letitia Tish and Clement Cardinal of Essex and Mary and Michael Wright of Essex; nieces and nephews.
Alton was predeceased by his father, Owen G. Collins; his brother Mark Collins and his wife Norma (Nolan) Collins in 1989. They were married in 1954.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 6, 2010 at 11:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Church in Enosburg Falls with the Reverend Daniel Jordan, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Georges Cemetery in Bakersfield. Friends may call at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave. in Enosburg Falls on Wednesday from 1-3 and 6-9 PM.
