ENOSBURG FALLS - Alton E. Herron, age 97, passed away Friday, November 23, 2018 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
He was born December 5, 1920 in Enosburgh to the late Burton & Flora (Ryea) Herron.
Alton married Arlene Derry on October 28, 1944. He farmed for 40 years in East Bakersfield. After selling the farm he started doing carpentry work. Alton retired in 1982, but he kept his wood working shop so he could continue making gifts and crafts. He was also a Fence Viewer for the town of Bakersfield for several years. Altons favorite hobbies, when he wasnt in his wood shop, were gardening, and reading western novels.
He is survived by his children, Elaine Cole and Gerald Herron and his wife Nicole all of Enosburg Falls; grandchildren, Kelly Hale and her husband Roger Godin, Andrew Hale and his wife Denise, Audra Rondeau, Travis Hale and his wife Becky, Jennifer Herron, and Tracy Loiselle and her husband Michael; great grandchildren, Randy, Carmin & Christian Godin, Andrew Drew Hale, Christopher, Alex, & Alaura Rondeau, Christina & Trevor Hale, and Landon & Genevieve Loiselle; and 7 great great grandchildren. Besides his parents, Alton was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Arlene Herron; son-in-law, Ira Chip Cole; and his siblings, Lillin, Gladis, Lou, Ester, Raymond & Robert.
A combined memorial service for Alton & Arlene will take place on Friday, November 30, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. Interment will be held this spring in the Berkshire Center Cemetery.
