ENOSBURG FALLS - Ardelle Hazel Elwood, age 79, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2009 at her home with her family at her side.
She was born February 25, 1930 in East Enosburg the daughter of the late Raymond & Florence (Corey) Johnson.
Ardelle devoted her life to raising her eight children and was very proud that five of her sons served in the armed services. She enjoyed watching the birds, growing flowers, listening to country singers, dancing and caring for her cats, Snoopy & Princess. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post # 12 of Richford.
She is survived by her longtime companion, Silas Leroy Hurlbut of Enosburg Falls; her eight children, Royal Elwood and his wife Kathy of California, Raymond Elwood and his wife Linda of Fairfield, Robert Elwood and his wife, Elizabeth Gauffreau of Nottingham, NH, Randy Elwood and his wife Kim of Enosburg, Rick Elwood and his wife Brenda of Enosburg, Rose Friot and her husband Jody of Sheldon, Roger Elwood and his wife Diane of Enosburg, and Romona Deakin of Connecticut; her grandchildren, Betty Jo, William, Sonia, Angela, Ammie, Becky, Kertus, Jesse, Jennie, Destiny, Savannah, Ruby, Sarah, Amanda, Ryan, Kyle & Codi; two sisters, Lucy Lilly Pearo, and Wanda Ploof both of St. Albans; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents Ardelle was predeceased by a granddaughter, Lynn Parrotte; and brothers, Philip & Robert Johnson.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls with Rev. Jon Bly officiating. Interment will follow in the Sheldon Village Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home Saturday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the funeral.
