BERKSHIRE CENTER - Arlin O. Jewett, age 93, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, February 27, 2013 at his home with his loving family at his side.
He was born April 19, 1919 and was raised on West Hill in Montgomery the son of the late Fred & Bertha (Ordway) Jewett.
Arlin went to School in Montgomery Center and grew up on the family dairy farm. He left Montgomery to work in the mines in Eden, VT. At the same time he attended machinist trade school in Morrisville.
In 1944 Arlin married Geneva Johnson. Together they bought the Thayer Inn on the Boston Post Road in Berkshire Center, living there for 68 years where they farmed and raised their children. In 1955 Arlin worked at Champlain Motors in St. Albans and in 1957 he went to work at Fonda Container Co. in St. Albans where he worked as a very well respected tool and die machinist for 25 years.
Dad was a man who loved his family and his community. When the Town of Berkshire needed to expand its cemetery, Arlin & Geneva donated the land. It is appropriate that our father & mothers final resting place is part of their farm. Many of the neighboring farm owners have respected and cared for our father over the years. He will be missed.
The family has a great deal of appreciation for the Franklin County Home Health Agency regarding the care they provided our parents for many years.
He is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Marilyn & Ed Gelinas of Grand Isle, and Linda & Jim Foster of Poulsbo, WA; his daughter-in-law, Theresa Jewett of Jay; Grandchildren, Beth Ann Machia, Andrea Jewett, Travis Jewett, Jessica Herron, Katie Hale, Sara Gelinas, EJ Gelinas, Margaret Gelinas, Ora Menees & Brom Menees; 13 Great Grandchildren; several nieces and nephews who have been a very important part of Arlin & Genevas lives. Besides his parents, Arlin was predeceased by his wife, Geneva (Johnson) Jewett on December 30, 2001; his sons, Richard Jewett on January 8, 2012 & James Jewett on December 18, 2012; and his brothers Gerald Jewett and his wife Ruth and Floyd Jewett and his wife Beulah
