FRANKLIN - Arthur J. Larivee, age 77 passed away October 9, 2011 following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born November 29, 1933 in Berkshire, VT, son of the late Arthur J. Larivee of Sutton, Quebec and Bess (Crickx) Larivee. He was one of nine children.
Arthur was a man who truly loved nature and was part of nature while being a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. As a great outdoorsman, who spent much of his life in the wilderness, fishing the streams, hunting and trapping the mountains and farming the land. Most times, he was joined by his children and friends, teaching his family the basic morals of life, but he also sought solitude and solace there as well.
In 1953, at the age of 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Agile and surefooted, he fit right in when stationed at Newfoundland Air Force Base, where he became Port Motor Pool Transportation Officer and a trained and certified M1 Grand and 45 Colt Rifle Marksmen and Crew Serve Weapon. Some of his many duties included moving ammo, artillery and missile supplies support for troops abroad. He was honorably discharged in 1955.
In 1955 he returned to Vermont and met the love of his life, Theresa. They soon married November 7, 1959 and had six wonderful children. Arthur was very proud of his children and grandchildren and their accomplishments.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa (Michel) Larivee of Franklin, VT; sons Daniel Larivee and his wife Jacqueline of Franklin; Johnny Larivee and his wife Nancy of Franklin; Mark Larivee and his wife Anne of Berkshire; Zel Larivee and his wife Lisa of Franklin; daughters Susan Larivee of Franklin and Robin Larivee of Franklin; grandchildren Megan, Katie, Sarah, Jamie, Amanda, Timothy, Cody, Anthony, Seth, Luc and Benjamin Larivee and great grandson, Jeremiah Ovitt, and very special nephew Paul Michel. He was also a father figure to many. He is also survived by his brothers, David Larivee and wife Betty, Ross Larivee and wife Louise, sisters-in-law Elaine Larivee and Mary Larivee and numerous nieces and nephews. Arthur was predeceased by his parents, brothers Guy, Orville, and Stanley, sisters Ruby, Cecile, and Frieda.
At Arthurs request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. A family graveside service will be held at St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in Franklin, VT on Wednesday, October 12th at 11 am.
