Arthur "Doc" Sutherland

January 16, 1927 — August 21, 2009

ENOSBURG - Arthur C. DOC Sutherland, age 82, passed away Friday August 21, 2009 at the St. Albans Health Care Facility.

Arthur was born January 16, 1927 in Danvers, MA the son of the late James R. & Minnie (Homan) Sutherland.

Arthur was a resident of Enosburg for the past 18 years where he worked part-time at Brookside Camp Ground and Cold Hollow Precision. He was a former resident of Danvers, MA where he worked as the Director of Nursing at the Danvers State Hospital. He also worked for Wells Fargo Armored Car Service in Wakefield MA., and was an Auxiliary Police Officer for the Danvers Police Department. Arthur also found time to be a Projectionist for the Strand Theatre in Ipswich, MA.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. Following his discharge from the Navy, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War and then re-enlisted in the Navy serving during Vietnam. Following his final discharge from the Navy he served in the Naval Reserve in Massachusetts for many years retiring with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 42 of Enosburg Falls.

Arthur enjoyed watching NASCAR and fishing. He was an avid reader and in his younger years he was a racecar driver having raced on Daytona Beach and learned to fly planes. He also was an Exhibitionist Ball Room dancer.

He is survived by his partner, Barbara (Neveu) Amor of Enosburg Falls and his children; Julie Robtoy and her husband Dwight of Enosburg Falls, Wendy Morrill and her husband Jeff of St Albans. Nancy Teel of Nashua, NH, and James Daniel Sutherland of Massachusetts; his grandchildren, Riley Brianna Robtoy, Jacob Morrill, Olivia Morrill and Jessi Phillips.

A graveside service with military honors will be held Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 12:00 PM at the Vermont Veterans Cemetery in Randolph. There will be no visiting hours.
