SWANTON - Barbara Jane (Ryan) Day, age 74, a lifelong area resident, passed away peacefully at the Franklin County Rehabilitation Center on June 16th, 2022 with family at her side.
Barbara was born the second child to Richard and Ruth Jane (Riley) Ryan on October 1st, 1947. She spent much of her life working for the City of Saint Albans, in many different roles.
Barbara was a traveler at heart. She was a member of the 251 Club, accomplishing 102 destinations between 2000 and 2016, with her sister, Judy and friend Karen. She loved nothing more than surrounding herself with family and laughter. Barbara loved to knit, “collect” magazines and newspapers, organize documents, keepsakes, and photos, and she loved to cook. Her cottage cheese salads at holiday gatherings will be missed! Barbara had a huge heart, she loved animals and enjoyed her group of friends at Hawks Nest. She appreciated great music, especially her memorable trip to Montreal to see the Eagles perform live.
Barbara is survived by her sons, Craig Day and Scott Day; her brother, David Ryan; sister, Kelly Connolly (Kevin Connolly); granddaughter, Hannah Day (Tyler Lawrence); nephew, Jim Gadue (Donna Wilson Gadue); and niece, Taylor Connolly. She is further survived by the lights of her life, her great grandchildren, Brinley Day-Longley, and Addilyn and Grady Lawrence; along with special friends, Thomas Helmer and Karen Szely; and many great-nieces and cousins, especially Kathy Sullivan and Barbara Dauber. Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Richard and Ruth Ryan; and sisters, Judy Gadue and Martha Ryan.
Barbara’s family would like to thank the staff at Franklin County Rehab Center for the special care she received since March of 2020. All of the staff went above and beyond in caring for Barb, especially in her last days, and we take great comfort in knowing how much she was loved. Special thanks to Ann Domina, Morgan Bullock, Courtney Machia, Storm Snider, Britney Clark, and Mikaella Doran for their care throughout the last couple years.
