Barbara "Bobbie" Kittell

September 27, 1924 — February 12, 2012

RICHFORD - Barbara H. Bobbie Kittell - On Sunday, February 12, 2012, we lost our dear Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and friend to many people. She passed away due to Alzheimers at Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford, Vermont. We will be forever grateful for the love and care she received there.

Barbara Helen Fortier Kittell (known to most as Bobbie), was born the daughter of Beatrice (Lovelette) and Albert Fortier on September 27, 1924 in the town of Richford. She was blessed to have very loving parents and an older brother, Wendell Fortier.

In Bobbie's younger years, she worked at the Bluebird restaurant in Richford and Bell Aircraft in Burlington. She then enlisted into the Woman's Army Corp where she was stationed in Georgia and Massachusetts. She was very proud to have served her country, especially during World War II.

On September 5, 1945 she married William Bill Kittell. After spending their first three years in Richford they bought a farm and moved to Franklin. Together they farmed and raised a family of five children, Blaine, Brenda, Bonnie, Bill and infant son Brigg. Bobbie worked hard alongside her family on the farm. She was also employed at Brosseau store in West Berkshire, at Ada Martins flower shop, Pomeroy's flower shop in Enosburg Falls and later, Susie Adams shop in Richford.

In 1961, after moving her family back to Richford, she began her lifelong job as secretary at Blue Seal Feeds in Richford, retiring in 1984. She loved her job and being with people. She always had a smile and a kind word for everyone!

Bobbie was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was a Diaconate, a member of the American Legion and President of the Order of the Eastern Star. Bobbie spent her life enjoying a love of flowers, attending her grandchildrens activities, going on shopping trips with her family, her love of music and animals, and took pride in her home and spending holidays with her family.

Bobbie is survived by sons Blaine and Bill Kittell, daughter Brenda and Albert Desrochers and many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren; Tara, Jennifer and Trever Gross, Kristi, Kari, Kyli and Kati Tatro Birmingham, Guy, Andy, Phillip Kittell and Jason and Chris Kittell. Great grandchildren Blaine, Ashley, and Colton Kittell. She leaves a brother Wendell Fortier and his family. She was predeceased by her husband Bill 3/12/2007, two dear children, son Brigg and daughter Bonnie 2/12/1988, daughter-in-law Gretchen, her parents Albert and Bea Fortier, and her sister-in-law Sheila Fortier.

We would like to publicly thank all the loving, sensitive, thoughtful, kind, caring, hardworking people at Our Lady of the Meadows. Mom was, for the last five years and nine months, in the best home away from home she could possibly have.

We would also like to thank the Home Health Agency Hospice Program. This program and their special people enabled Mom to remain at Our Lady until the end. What a great service and such skilled professionals in this program.
