BERKSHIRE - Our loving mother, Bertha V. Dudley, age 98, passed on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
She was born in Knowlton, Quebec, Canada on November 13, 1919 to the late Edwin & Virginia (Ross) Page.
Bertha grew up and went to school in Canada. She worked as a meat cutter in Montreal for a short time before returning to help on the family farm. In the 1940s she moved to Vermont to be with her husband, Herbert Dudley, Sr., they were married in 1945. Bertha and Herbert raised 6 children on their farm in West Berkshire. Aside from working on the farm, Bertha was the caretaker for the school house in West Berkshire. Bertha and Herbert sold the farm in the late 1960s and remained in West Berkshire before moving to St. Albans in 1985.
Her kitchen was always open, and she looked forward to feeding, hosting and loving her family and close friends. Bertha was a kind and caring soul; her faith was her guiding compass and her children will always remember the abundance of love she had to offer. Aside from spending time with her family, Berthas favorite hobbies were gardening, sewing, crocheting, and cooking. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother.
She is survived by her 6 children; Lois McDonald and her husband Keith of St. Catharines, Ontario, CA, Diane Beauregard and her husband Yves of Berkshire, Sue Piche and her husband Bob of Spring Hill, FL, Herbert Dudley Jr. and his wife Marshia of Enosburg Falls, George Dudley of Ellenton, FL and Arnold Dudley and his wife Cindy of Berkshire; 15 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren; Steve Ashline and all of her special friends from Hawks Nest in St. Albans and many nieces & nephews. Besides her parents, Bertha was predeceased by her husband, Herbert Dudley Sr. and her siblings, Walter, Bernard, Kenneth, Harry, Ross, Hugh, Leslie, Minnie, Hattie, Ethel & Elizabeth.
Berthas family would like to thank the staff from Northwestern Medical Center for the excellent care she received.
A funeral service will be held Monday, February 19, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. Interment will be held this spring in the East Franklin Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Monday at Spears Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service.
