ENOSBURG FALLS, VT / PORT RICHEY, FL - Bessie L. Smith, age 98, passed away Friday morning March 2, 2007 at the Consulate Health Care Facility in Hudson, FL.
\tShe was born April 24, 1908 in Berkshire, VT the daughter of the late Frank & Minnie Ann (Shover) Young.
\tIn 1924 she married Arthur Smith, who predeceased her in 1981 after 56 years of marriage. Together they had a farm in West Enosburg for many years. She also lived in Berkshire and Vals Trailer Park in Enosburg Falls prior to making her home with her son and daughter-in-law in Port Richey, FL.
\tShe was very active in the former Tyler Brach Grange and the Franklin Pamona Grange.
\tShe is survived by her son, Arthur Smith Jr. and his wife Norma of Port Richey, FL; 8 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandson; several nieces and nephews including Carolyn Whiting and her husband John of Enosburg Falls. Bessies family is greatly appreciative of the attention that Carolyn and John provided to Bessie through the years. Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Lucille Lyman of Bloomfield, CT; 3 brothers, Olin, Clarence & Carlton Young; and 4 sisters, Violet Greenwood, Nettie Garrett, Viola Gero, and Lillian Metevier.
\tFuneral services will be held Saturday March 10, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls with Pastor Cheryl Heater officiating. Interment will be held this spring at the East Franklin Cemetery.
\tVisiting hours will be held Friday evening from 7-9 at the Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls.
