Betty Carpenter

ENOSBURGH - Betty Ma Betty Carpenter, age 77, passed away Friday morning, August 31, 2012 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

She was born September 18, 1934 in Franklin, VT the daughter of the late, C. George & Vivian (Tatro) Belanger.

Betty was a lifelong resident of Enosburg and was a 1952 graduate of Enosburg Falls High School. She married John H. Carpenter on June 28, 1952. Betty raised her children while helping John with chores and then supported and loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Following their retirement from farming, Betty and John enjoyed spending their winters in Florida and over the years made many friends.

Betty enjoyed playing 500 with her Fat Ladies Card Club and in recent years she enjoyed lunch dates with high school class mates. Most of all she loved to be with her family and you could always find kids, grandkids & great grandkids out back on sunny days in her pool.

She is survived by her son and his wife, Jim & Suz-Anne Carpenter; 4 daughters and their husbands, Mary Mason, Dianne & Arthur Tibbits all of Enosburgh, Cindy & Phil Playful of Fairfield, and Carole Ann Carpenter of Berkshire; her 12 grandchildren, Judy Pond and her husband Andy, Karen Westcom and her husband Jeff, Dawn Reed and her husband Shane, Wayne Carpenter and his wife Karen, Amy Palmer and her husband Dylan, Tessa Tibbits and her fianc Zachary Sweet, Katy & Corey Tibbits, Gregory & Matthew Playful, and Levi Irish Fuller and her husband Craig, and Ben Irish and his wife Amy; 15 great grandchildren, Nicholas, Olivia & Mason Pond, Johnathon Mason, Rebecca Westcom, Samantha Dezotelle, Sara & John Carpenter, Miss Mollie Palmer, Faith & Lexi Reed, Caleigh Tibbits, Skyler Sweet, Elliot Irish Fuller, and her very special great granddaughter, Cassie Westcom; her brother, Carroll & Gemma Belanger of Lake City, FL; brother-in-law, Charles & Pat Carpenter of Montgomery; dear friend, Marion Wetherbee of Enosburg Falls who considered her a sister; and close friends, Pete & Reenie Harhay of Syracuse, NY. Besides her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband John on December 21, 2007; her son Art in 1955; and her son-in-law, Louie Mason on May 29, 2010; and sister-in-law, Thelma Belanger

Funeral services will be held Monday September 3, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the West Enosburgh United Methodist Church, 1725 Tyler Branch Road. Interment will follow in the Enosburgh Center Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be Sunday from 6-9 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.
