ST. ALBANS – Betty A. Osterhoudt, age 75, passed away following a brief illness on Saturday, August 27, 2022 surrounded by her loving family and friends at the UVM Health Center in Burlington.
She was born in Burlington on September 16, 1946 to the late Frank W. & Angela (Barquin) Densmore.
Betty was raised in Essex Junction. She met Kenneth, who she married, and they began their family. Corey was born and then they moved to California following Ken’s career. While in California, Amy was born and completed their family. Years later, they moved back to Vermont, and she returned to work as a banker, moving up the chain from Teller to the Assistant Branch Manager. She changed careers and joined the Edward Jones Investment group which became family to Betty. She was a trusted and dedicated partner in the business. Betty was known for the love of her job and for her dedication to her clients. She was a Senior Branch Office Administrator and a Limited Partner. She will be remembered and celebrated by her coworkers by the positive impact she had on them, and she will be greatly missed. Betty played many roles, wore many hats, and was a second mom to many of the neighborhood kids and friends of Corey and Amy’s. She was affectionately known as Mom, Mema, Betty Anne, Mrs. O, Mama O just to name a few. Betty was fiercely independent and often times stubborn which helped her accomplish great things in life. Besides raising her children, her biggest accomplishment was becoming a homeowner. She was tickled pink to have her own place and make upgrades of her choice. She painted her dining room walls as often as she wanted to! Betty took pride in her flower gardens, and the appearance of her yard. She and Carol made annual trips to the Champlain Valley Fair for Al’s french fries and a sausage with peppers and onions. Betty loved Neil Diamond and saw him in concert many times. Those that knew Betty would describe her as the most generous and thoughtful woman that would do anything for anyone. Holidays won’t be the same, as Betty loved hosting family get togethers with her famous fruit salad, lasagna, and bread pudding.
She is survived by her children, Corey Osterhoudt and his wife Traci of Alburgh, Amy Osterhoudt of South Royalton; grandchildren, Nicole Stebbins and her husband Jayson, and Timothy Cota; the apple of her eye and great grandson, Jensen Stebbins; her canine companion, Benji; granddogs, Walter, Doodles and Finn; her sister, Patricia Densmore; several nieces and nephews; and her lifelong friend, Carol Woodbury. Besides her parents, Betty was predeceased by her best friend, Carol Helfrich; and the father of her children, Kenneth Osterhoudt.
