Bonnie L. Labrie

March 27, 1958 — June 26, 2021

CAMBRIDGE– Bonnie Lee (Gokey) Labrie passed away peacefully, with her loved ones at her side on Saturday, June 26th, 2021. She was mother to Christopher and Jennifer and devoted grandmother to Ellie and Wyatt. Her family meant the world to her, and she found no greater joy than spending time with her two beautiful grandchildren. Ellie and Wyatt were blessed to have the time that they had with their grandmother, and she will be missed by everyone who knew her.

She is predeceased by her parents, Joyce and Lincoln, two brothers, David and Richard, and two sisters, Dayle and Donna. She is survived by her children, grandchildren as well as three sisters, Debbie, Deanna and Gloria and a sister in-law Cindy.

From an early age, Bonnie excelled at school, thriving to learn as much as she could and even winning some local educational competitions. She was very social and enjoyed spending time with friends and loved ones. A wild heart would best describe her as she dreamed big, fought hard, and especially enjoyed her youth and adolescence. Everyone loved being around her as she was humble, modest and unassuming. People felt at ease when she was around.

Like anyone, Bonnie had her demons. She overcame obstacles that most people never would. Her life was complex, and she was continually learning how to better herself and her family when she learned that taking care of herself had to come first. She taught her family the true meaning of strength and forgiveness on a level that most people are never able to fully understand or experience.

She was an incredible aunt to all of her many nephews and nieces. A highlight for many of them was getting to spend the night at Aunt Bonnie’s house with all of the fun that it entailed. Late night snacks, adventures in her large yard and even a chance to swim in the pool was enough to keep everyone behaving as they should.

Once her youngest child was in school, Bonnie began working again, first at the Fletcher Elementary School and more recently at the Bakersfield Elementary School. She was a smiling face that all of the kids looked forward to seeing at lunchtime and touched every heart that she came into contact with. How could she have known that she would have meant so much to so many people? Every person who met her was better for knowing her and blessed to have her in their lives.

When Bonnie took her final breath God gained an amazing angel, but we were all left with a hole in our hearts that will always hold a place for her. We were blessed to know her and to have her in our lives and her impact will continue to be felt through the legacy that she leaves behind in her children and grandchildren.

“There are only two lasting bequests we can give our children – one is roots, and the other, wings.” - Hodding S. Carter
