NEWPORT, NH / WEST BERKSHIRE, VT - Bruce Irving Chaffee, age 72, passed away Friday, October 22, 2010 at the Summerset Assisted Living Facility in Newport, NH where Bruce made his home for the last 4 years.
Bruce was born February 17, 1938 in Morrisville, VT the son of the late Irving Donald & Genevieve (Roberts) Chaffee.
Bruce was a 1955 graduate of Enosburg Falls High School. He joined the U.S. Air Force serving during Vietnam. Bruce\u0027s photo and name are on the Wall of Honor for the Berkshire soldiers in the East Berkshire Historical Building. He was employed at LaValleys Building Supply in Newport for 33 years retiring in 2000.
Bruce enjoyed playing the piano, reading, playing games, especially cribbage and as a young man, bowling. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post # 808
He is survived by a daughter, Deanna Lavoie and her husband Andrew of Merrimack, NH, and a son, Mark Chaffee of Northfield, NH, a daughter, Brenda Bickford, and sons, Michael and Peter Chaffee all of Arkansas; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandsons; a sister and her husband, Pamela & John Colburn of Enosburg Falls, VT; a brother, Robert Chaffee of Woburn, MA; a sister-in-law, Diane Chaffee of Berkshire; several nieces and nephews. Bruce was predeceased by his father, Irving Chaffee of April 9, 1997; his mother, Genevieve Chaffee on October 25, 1997; and his brother, David Chaffee on November 8, 2009; and 2 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday October 26, 2010 at 10:00 AM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls, VT. Interment followed in the family lot at the West Berkshire Cemetery, West Berkshire Rd., Berkshire, VT.
Visiting hours were held Monday from 6-8 PM at the Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls, VT
