BAKERSFIELD - Carl James LaFountain, age 67, died on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at home peacefully surrounded by his daughters.
Carl was born May 31, 1949 in St. Albans, the son of the late Edward & Gloria (Gordon) LaFountain.
He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Hector (AR-7). Following his duty, he worked as a self-employed contractor and farmer. Carls hobbies included watching NASCAR with his brother, haying with Marcel and sugaring with Larry. He was an avid hunter, so lets not leave out Bufferd his prized 13-pointer. He also loved spending time with his daughters and grandkids, reminiscing about his racing days at Catamount in his O2 car, riding four wheelers and snowmobiles or just an evening by a fire. Rocky movies were his favorite, he would watch them from start to finish, and he could quite possibly recite each and every line in them! Carl enjoyed the simple life and he wouldnt have it any other way.
He is survived by his daughters, Karrie LaFountain of St. Albans, Jennifer LaFountain of Milton, Melissa Wood of Burlington and Cathy Boissonneault and her husband Jay of Georgia; his grandkids, Maria, Dustin, Brendon, Bryant, Brent and Macie; his siblings, Ed, Gordon, Paul, Ronald and Randall LaFountain, Donna Bidwell, Marie Hill, Paulette Sweetser, Virginia Reed, Melanie Porwitzkys and Joyce Blanchard and all of their spouses and many, many aunts & uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, especially Blaine, who shares so many memories with Carl.
Carls family would like to send their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Northwestern Medical Center and Franklin County Home Health Agency; and a very special thank you to Larry and Cynthia for watching over our Dad these past few years and everything you have done for all of us. We love you!
A graveside memorial service with military honors will be held Monday, September 26, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 487 Furnace Rd, Randolph Center, VT. Following his service, Carl will be laid to rest next to his friend, John Urius.
