RICHFORD - Carolyn J. Coons, age 85, passed away at her home on Thursday afternoon July 7, 2011 with her family at her side.
She was born December 19, 1925 in Richford the daughter of the late James Kenneth & Pearl (Densmore) Jenne.
Carolyn was a lifelong resident of Richford. She was a 1947 graduate of Mary Fletcher School of Nursing and married Robert A. Coons on June 11, 1947. Carolyn and Bob operated a general store in Stevens Mills for several years. Carolyn also worked as a Registered Nurse for 25 years at Kerbs Memorial Hospital in St. Albans retiring in 1987. She also worked for several area patients as a private duty nurse and worked part-time at the Richford Health Center. She was a member of the Richford Renaissance Housing Group, Richford Health Center Board of Directors and the Richford Historical Society Board of Directors.
Carolyn enjoyed knitting, sewing, painting porcelain dolls, weaving baskets, making braided rugs, jewelry and candy, photography, traveling making it to all 50 states and working on her family genealogy. She was also an outdoors person and enjoyed canoeing, fishing, hunting, riding her 4-wheeler and gardening, especially her flowers. And, she was an animal lover and had a time when she bred and sold Poodles. Most importantly she loved to spend time with her family.
She is survived by her sons, Robert Coons and his wife Gloria of Lincoln, ME, Eric Coons and his companion Sueann Coonrod of Plattsburgh, NY, and Scott Coons and his wife Linda of Richford; 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend Sue Martin of Bakersfield. Besides her parents, Carolyn was predeceased by her husband, Robert Coons on December 28, 1988; and her brothers, Stuart & Alan Jenne.
A graveside memorial service will be held Sunday July 10, 2011 at 6:00 PM at the Hillside Cemetery, Golf Course Road, Richford. There will be no visiting hours.
