FRANKLIN - Carolyn F. Hemenway, age 77, wife of Theodore Hemenway Sr., passed away Wednesday May 21, 2008 at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility with her loving husband at her side.
She was born July 19, 1930 in Enosburgh, VT the daughter of the late Leon & Ruth (Burt) Frazier.
Carolyn was a resident of Enosburgh most of her life and for the past 5 years made her home at the Franklin Homestead. In her early years Carolyn was a child care provider for several families in the area with a special fondness for Dr. Harlan & Betty Casavants family and Norman & Nancy Lavelys family. She also worked at Everready in St. Albans for 29 years retiring in 1987 due to declining health.
She was a member of the East Franklin Union Church, American Legion Auxiliary Post #42 of Enosburg Falls, Enosburgh Historical Society, and served as Vice President of the Main St. Cemetery Association in Enosburg Falls. During WWII Carolyn knitted mittens, socks, and hats that were shipped to troops overseas. She enjoyed listening to Classical & Instrumental music, attending plays at the Enosburgh Opera House and theatres in Canada, going out to eat, and traveling with Ted throughout the states and abroad.
She is survived by her husband, Theodore Hemenway Sr. of Franklin. They were married February 2, 1974. She is also survived by her step children, Timothy Hemenway and his wife Christine of Swanton, Tammy Hemenway of Swanton, Clysta Clark and her husband Walter of Pacolet, SC; her step grandchildren, Sarah, Tea, Rebeckeh, Rose, Shannon, Cody, Kelly, Clarissa, Jessica & Rachael; and many step great grandchildren; cousins, Barbara Ovitt of South Burlington, Theodore Frazier, Jr. of Enosburgh Center, Joan Faux and her husband Reverend Ronald Faux of California, Nancy Weber and her husband Ted of Maine, and Mary Burt of Enosburg Falls. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a step-son, Theodore Hemenway, Jr.
Funeral services will be held Sunday May 25, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the East Franklin Union Church with Pastor Jason McConnell officiating. Interment will follow in the West Enosburg Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held Saturday from 6-8 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls
