Chester Bromley Jr.

July 6, 1932 — February 6, 2025

ISLE LA MOTTE - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Chester Charles Bromley Jr., age 92, who left this world peacefully on February 6, 2025, in his beloved home of Isle La Motte.

Born on July 6, 1932, in Burlington, Vermont, to the late Chester Sr. & Evelyn (Desautels), Chester was a devoted family man, steadfast friend, and a pillar of his community.

Chester's life was marked by his deep sense of duty and service, beginning in high school when he enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve. After graduating, he bravely served aboard the USS Chipola during the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Audrey Dickson, in 1986 and together they built a beautiful life filled with love and dedication to their community.

Chester had a distinguished career, working for notable companies such as Giroux Sign Co., General Electric, Abelove Linen, and ultimately retiring from IBM after an impressive 26 years. Yet, it was his commitment to public service that truly defined him. He served as an Alderman in Burlington and became an integral part of Isle La Motte's local government after moving there in 1976, taking on nearly every role imaginable within the town which led to him being named Isle La Motter of the year in 2023. He was also a proud member of the Isle La Motte Lodge #81 F&A Masons where he earned the title of Citizen of the Year in 2005, and the Order of the Easter Star Columbia Chapter #76 where he served as Worthy Patron.

Chester was affectionately known as the "right-hand man for just about everything." His practical skills, especially his prowess with duct tape, were legendary among friends and family. Always ready to lend a helping hand, he exemplified kindness and community spirit. Chester's numerous passions included golfing-where he worked at the Alburgh Links mowing the greens-and spending winters in Florida. He delighted in watching country westerns and MSNBC and took immense pride in caring for his lawn.

Left to cherish Chester's memory is his wife, Audrey Bromley; his children, Lisa Bohannon, Cheryl Schifilliti, and Kim Savard; step-son, Gary Francis II; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; his brother, Ronnie Bromley and his wife Joan; and several nieces, nephews, and friends in the community. In addition to his parents, Chester was predeceased by his step-son, Andrew Francis; and his siblings, Cleatus Bromley, Beverley Lambert, and Rochelle Barber.

A memorial service will be held for Chester on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Isle La Motte United Methodist Church, Church St., Isle La Motte, VT. A reception will follow at Islands in the Sun Senior Center, Main St., Alburgh, VT. And in your travels remember Chester's words "When you're leaving the Island, be careful of the deer."

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Chester's memory may be made to Franklin County Animal Rescue, 30 Sunset Meadows, St. Albans, VT 05478.
