BAKERSFIELD - Clarence H. Jim Young Jr., age 86, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at the Redstone Villa Nursing Home in St. Albans.
He was born October 13, 1927 in Berkshire to the late Clarence Sr. & Ruth (Greenia) Young.
Clarence joined the U.S. Army at a young age and served in Germany. After his time in the military he returned to Vermont and married Gladys Westcom. Clarence worked in bridge construction for most of his life; he was part of building most of the bridges towards the Canadian border on Interstate 89 and several others around Franklin County. When he was laid off during the winter months he would spend time remodeling bathrooms and kitchens and doing odd jobs for people in the area.
His hobbies included hunting, ice fishing, attended auctions and lawn sales and wood working. He also enjoyed making lawn ornaments for his family.
He is survived by his son, Gary Young and his wife Donna of Bakersfield; 2 grandchildren, Jason Orval Young and his wife Katherine and Angelina Young both of Enosburg; great grandchildren, Courtney, Jerron, Kaleb, Cayden and Jake; his significant other, Marlene Williams of Bakersfield; siblings, Virginia Young, Wendell Young and his wife Nancy and Barbie Basner and her husband Reginald all of New Hampshire; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Westcom of Bakersfield and June Young of New Mexico; a special cousin, Harold Greenia of Franklin and several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents, Clarence was predeceased by his wife, Gladys Young and his siblings, Ronald Young and Eleanor Titus and a sister-in-law, Maysil Longe.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, September 14, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls with Pastor Lyle Willey officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove cemetery in Bakersfield.
A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the hour of the service.
