BAKERSFIELD - Cora A. Ovitt, age 73, passed away Sunday November 2, 2014 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans with her loving family by her side.
She was born in East Fairfield on November 14, 1940 the daughter of the late Burton H. & Caroline (Lawyer) Hale.
Cora grew up in East Fairfield where she attended elementary school and was a 1958 graduate of Brigham Academy where she excelled in basketball. While in high school she worked at the Fairfield Town Clerks office. She then worked at the Franklin County Bank until her first child was born. She then in 1972 purchased a business with her husband. In 1980 she left that business to work with a new company being formed, CopyTek which was later purchased by Boise Cascade retiring in 2002. For the past 6 years she served as the Assistant Town Clerk & Treasurer for the Town of Bakersfield.
She loved to dance, play golf, quilt, knit, play cards and travel. Most of all Cora loved to spend time with her grandchildren and support them during their activities.
She is survived by her husband, David Ovitt of Bakersfield; her children; son, David P. Ovitt and his son Owen of East Montpelier, son, Michael Ovitt his wife Ursula of Huntington, their children Rebekah of Huntington and Elisabeth Upton and her husband Thomas of Richmond, VA, daughter, Kimberly Ovitt of Bakersfield & Richmond, VA, son, Brian Ovitt his wife Karen and their children, Katie & Kyle Ovitt of Bakersfield; her siblings, Barbara Riley and her husband Horace of East Fairfield, Richard Hale and his wife Georgette of East Fairfield, Stuart Hale of Albany, Carolyn Clark and her husband Robert of Milton, Marvin Hale and his wife Sandy of East Hadley, MA, Mark Hale and his companion Carrie Nelson of East Fairfield; former sister-in-law, Terry Hale of East Fairfield; sister-in-law, Donna Northrop and her husband John of Lisbon, NH; brothers-in-law, Dennis Ovitt and his wife Donna Jean of Bakersfield, Dexter Ovitt and his wife Sally of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Dwight Ovitt of Honolulu, HA, Dale Ovitt and his wife Mary of Bakersfield, Douglas Ovitt and his companion Jane Gaudette of St. Albans, and Duane Ovitt and his companion Bette Paquette of Bakersfield; many nieces and nephews. Beside her parents, Cora was predeceased by her brother, Burton A. Hale and her sister, Brenda Wright.
Funeral services will be held Thursday November 6, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the United Church of Bakersfield (former Bakersfield Congregational Church), East Bakersfield Road, Bakersfield with Rev. Dr. Barbara Purinton officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Bakersfield.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 4-7 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.
