BAKERSFIELD - Dennis F. DeBevec, age 70, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.
Dennis was born April 9, 1946 in Mansfield, Ohio to the late Edward & Frances (Udovich) DeBevec.
He grew up in Ohio and after graduating from Elyria Catholic High School and attending John Carroll University, he joined the U.S. Army. He moved to Vermont in the 1970s and built a house on his little piece of heaven in Bakersfield. Dennis had a passion for sailing, he even chartered and sold sail boats in Shelburne for a period of time. Most of his working career was spent with the Vermont Department of Corrections, during which he held positions throughout the state.
Dennis had a curious mind, which was evident from his volunteer work. He was a long-time member of the Vermont Historical Society and the Vermont Humanities Council, during which he also served as chairman He was an active member civically for the town of Bakersfield, serving as Moderator for Town Meeting, a Justice of the Peace, a Trustee of Public Funds and a member of the Regional Planning Commission.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia DeBevec of Bakersfield; their children, Edward DeBevec and his wife Katrina of St. Albans and Magdalene DeBevec of Greenfield, MA; a sister, Diane DeBevec of Elyria, OH and his beloved dog, Nelson. Dennis was predeceased by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the United Church of Bakersfield and East Fairfield, East Bakersfield Rd., Bakersfield with Rev. Dr. Barbara Purinton officiating.
