WEST ENOSBURGH - Donald E. Messier, Jr., age 67, passed away unexpectedly from natural causes at his home on January 14, 2015.
He was born June 15, 1947 in Enosburgh, the son of the late Donald & Mary Gertrude (Young) Messier.
Donnie was a lifelong resident of Enosburgh and was a graduate of Enosburg Falls High School. He was longtime employee with the Vermont Department of Transportation retiring in 1999. He also served for a short time as a Deputy Game Warden for the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department. Following his retirement he worked part time for Bill Pattee haying, sugaring & cutting wood.
Donnie served in the Vermont National Guard for many years and belonged to the American Legion Post # 42 of Enosburg Falls serving on the color guard as commander.
Among his many hobbies Donnie enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish and trap and was more than willing to share his knowledge with kids.
He is survived by his daughters, Jodie Dash and her husband Jason Draper of Sheldon, and Ashley Messier and her partner David Cota of Milton; his grandchildren, Megan Elizabeth Aldrich, Alison Jean Dash & Aydan Christopher Dash; his brother, Michael Messier of Richford; a niece and 3 nephews. Besides his parents Don was predeceased by his brother, David Messier; and his twin sister, Donna Tipper.
Visiting hours will be held Monday, January 19, 2015 from 1-4 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls with military honors taking place at the funeral home at 4PM. In keeping with Dons wishes there will be no funeral service and interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
