NORTH HERO - Dorice Dodds Clark passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, just one month after her 101st birthday.
She was born in Champlain, NY on January 8, 1924 to the late Ralph & Hazel (Maynard) Dodds.
Dorice was never idle, she was a devoted wife, mother, nurse, businesswoman, inn keeper, and in her words "I keep busy and enjoy people."
She graduated from high school in Champlain, NY with the class of 1942. After high school, she enrolled in SUNY Plattsburgh and graduated from their school of nursing in 1946. Dorice began her career as a nursing instructor at Mary Fletcher Hospital in Burlington, VT which led to a twenty-year career as the school nurse for the Grand Isle Supervisory School District, serving 5 town schools throughout the county. She married Charles "Charlie" R. Clark in October of 1945. While working as a nurse, Dorice and Charlie began building a business at Charlie's homestead in North Hero, VT. Known to many as Charlie's Northland, it became a favorite sport shop for fisherman, clothing store, and bed & breakfast with seasonal cottage rentals. They were in business together for 50 years, retiring in 2007.
Dorice enjoyed people, she could always find a relative, a friend or a friend of a relative at any event. She enjoyed playing weekly bridge games along with lengthy bike rides with her friends. They biked throughout the Champlain Islands, NY State & Canada, and one bike tour in Europe.
Dorice spent her later years at the Residence of Shelburne Bay and Burlington Heath and Rehab. The Clark family wishes to thank all the nurses and staff of both residences for the wonderful care of their mother.
Dorice was pre-deceased by her parents, Ralph and Hazel Dodds; her husband, Charles and all her brothers and sisters. She leaves behind two sons, Paul Clark and his wife Bonnie and Charles Clark and wife Polly; one daughter, Ruthann Hackett and her husband Luther Stephen; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
