Dorothy Patricia Lothian (Patterson) a.k.a Gram, widow of Guy Frederick Lothian passed away peacefully on May 2, 2012 with her loving family at her side.
She was born January 9, 1930 in Montreal, Quebec, the daughter of George Duncan and Eva May (Kemp) Patterson. The family lived in Montreal for her first two years, then moved to Sutton, Quebec for one year and then onto Cowansville where she lived with her mother, stepfather and sister, Pat. Dorothy attended Heroes Memorial High School in Cowansville and after graduation worked at the Bank of Commerce and the Bruck Silk Mills.
She met the love of her life on a blind date and shortly thereafter married Guy F. Lothian on October 14, 1950 at the Trinity Church in Cowansville, Quebec. They made their home in Franklin where, except for a short time in Connecticut and Enosburg Falls, she lived until her death. She worked at various places such as I.B.M., Jim's Lunch, Franklin Lamoille Bank, Tyler Place, Century Arms and the Franklin General Store. Over the years with Dorothy's involvement in Tina's day care and the local elementary school, Dorothy became "Gram" to so, so many children in the Franklin community. She thoroughly loved that nickname and that's how she has been known for years, even by adults.
She was a member of the Trinity Anglican Church in Cowansville and a communicant of the Franklin United Church and the Rice Hill Church. Through the years she was a member of several organizations and held a variety of positions and memberships including: Franklin Home Dem, Ladies Guild, American Legion Auxiliary of Enosburg, Justice of the Peace, Franklin Town Lister, Martha Washington Chapter of the Eastern Star, Franklin Fire & Rescue Auxiliary, Franklin Homestead Board of Directors and Treasurer of the Franklin Cemetery Association.
Gram enjoyed being around her family and felt great pride and pleasure while watching the grandchildren play sports. She was very independent and loved to travel and looked forward to spending time in Florida and Wells Beach with family, bus tours, group gambling excursions in Las Vegas, and many hours at the two cottages in Canada.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Guy in 1987, their infant son Gregory Guy in 1957, her mother, father, and stepfather. She also lost her only sibling, Kathleen (Pat) in 2006 and Pats husband, Lloyd Boast of Cowansville in 2010.
Mom always enjoyed writing and using our middle names so we felt it important to carry on the tradition in listing her survivors: son Brian Roy and Kathy Ann(Liberty), daughter Brenda Lynn and Roger Harrison Wright, daughter Lorri Lee and Mark Ronald Miller, son David Duane and Tina Louise (Benoit). Her grandchildren; Aaron Roger and Jennifer Robin Wright, Heath Harrison Wright and Katie Ann Thompson, Jennifer Celene and Barry Edward Eveland, Jessica Lee and Steven David Bunnell, Dylan David Lothian, Caleb Guy Lothian, Sean Patrick & Jane (Rainville) Cushing, Cory Allen & Krit (McCracken) Cushing, Bridget Marian & Craig Gilles, Jamie Lynn & Ryan Abell, and her special little buddy, Colt Crosby. Great Grandchildren: Taylor Ann Magoon, Tiffani Arin & Tricia Deni Wright; Haley Jane Thompson-Wright, Whitney Ann & Hayden Heath Wright; Mychal David & Ruby Ann Bunnell; Kali Mae & Grady Matthew Cushing; Coen Matthew & Maddox Cain Gilles; Carter Dean, Keghan Marie & Braydon Allen Abell
Dorothy leaves many special brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. "Skid" will always hold a special place in her sister's children's hearts: Peter & Kathy Boast. Also her lifelong friend, Pearl Hopson of Ontario and, of course; her loyal, feathered friend, George. She was so blessed to have had such wonderful caretakers over the past year while living at the Carriage House where she became very fond of Jen Stetson and looked forward to their time together.
Calling hours will be on Tuesday May 8, 2012 from 5pm - 8pm at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave, Enosburg Falls.
A memorial service will be held at the Franklin United Church, 5348 Main Street, Franklin on Wednesday May 9, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Franklin Village Cemetery
