BERKSHIRE - Edgar L Sonny Murphy Jr., 80, died May 11, 2012 at Fletcher Allen Health Care. Pop was a tree trimmer for Ashplundh Tree Expert Co for 24 years; he then worked for Holmdel Township NJ for 10 years. He was a home gardener and farmer in his earlier years. He served in the Navy and was stationed in Panama during the Korean War, and was a member of the American Legion. He was born in Spring Lake NJ and moved to VT in 1986. He was a member and served as Trustee of the Montgomery Methodist Church.
He married Lillian Mae Wolfe May 23, 1954 who predeceased him in 1994. He is survived by; his Son Richard and wife Melody of Keysville, VA, his daughter, Terry Poirier and husband Jim of Montgomery VT; Grandchildren, Shelly and Jahn Boe, Richard and Jenn Murphy, Lara and Jason Robtoy, Emma Cushing and Randy Holowaty, Avery Stanley and Megan Larivee; Step Grandchildren, Frances Devrow, Henry, Jacob and Birch Poirier and 12 Great Grandchildren; as well as his brother, Robert B Murphy of Farmingdale, NJ; His Sister, Patricia Opdycke and his parents, Edgar Sr and Jean Murphy predeceased him.
He remarried Marion Fortin who predeceased him in 2008. He is survived by her Children; Shirley and Ivan Elwood, Phyllis and Thomas Smith, Linda and Bert Honaker, Laurie and Spencer Elwood, Daniel and Patricia Fortin, her Grandchildren; Stacey White, Heather Vaillancourt, Justin Elwood, Jessica Halofsky, Aaron Smith, Scott Howard, Hannah Rushlow, Wayne Honaker, Beth Elwood, Nathan Elwood, Bryant Fortin and Tyler Fortin, and Great Grandchildren.
Pop will be remembered for his hard work ethic, meticulous yard work, his social skills, suspenders, wranglers, his sense of humor, his love of a good large meal, vegetable lasagna and his Shrimp Rings.
There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday May 19, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls with Pastor Edward Sorrell officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the funeral.
