ENOSBURG FALLS, VT - Mrs. Edna Henstridge Leipold, devoted and loving wife and mother, recently of Enosburg Falls, VT, died on February 9, 2016 surrounded by members of her family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Dr. Robert W. Leipold.
She is survived by her three sons, four granddaughters, and five greatgrandchildren: Son, William, and wife, Lynne, of Enosburg Falls, VT; granddaughter, Susan, and husband, Michael Johnson, and great-grandchildren, Mikayla and Justin, of Claremont, NH; and granddaughter, Laura Crawford, of Gastonia, NC; son, Robert, and wife, Patricia, of Wolfeboro Falls, NH; granddaughter, Jennifer, and husband, Terry Fisher, and great-grandchildren, Mackenna, Quincy and Devin, of Goffstown, NH; and granddaughter, Katherine Leipold, and fianc, Jay Warren, of Berwick, ME; and son, Thomas, and wife, Carol, of Catawissa, PA.
Edna was born in Queens, NY on October 28, 1925 to George William and Mary Gladys Henstridge. She was raised in Bethel, PA with her older sister, Audrey, with whom she enjoyed a close lifelong relationship. Edna met her future husband while she was a civilian employee of the Army Signal Corps and she later worked at the former Schleissners Department Store in Harrisburg. The couple married on December 28, 1946.
The Leipolds settled in McClure, Snyder County in 1950 where they raised their sons and the family members were active in the community. Edna was completely devoted to her family and she pursued her interests in cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, and oil painting. The Leipolds moved to Danville, Montour County in 1973 where Dr. Leipold was employed at Geisinger Medical Center. Following retirement, the couple spent many happy times at their cabin along Penns Creek near Weikert, Union County. The Leipolds enjoyed an active retirement as long as their health permitted.
Throughout her life, Edna showered her family with love and encouragement, taking great interest in the various activities of all her kids and expressing her pride in their accomplishments. She was truly the heart of her extended family.
