SHELDON / RICHFORD - Edward J. Snider, age 82, passed away Monday evening, February 15, 2010 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
He was born January 9, 1928 in Westfield, VT the son of the late Harry & Mae (Ducharme) Snider. He grew up in Westfield and attended Graded School in Westfield and Lowell.
Edward was a longtime resident of Richford and since 2000 made his home with his daughter in Sheldon. His working career started with his brother, Ernest, logging and operating heavy equipment. He was a bulldozer operator for LaPerle Construction and Wrights Construction and finally worked on the highway dept. for the Town of Richford retiring in 1996. He was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War.
Edward was a communicant of All Saints Catholic Church in Richford. He enjoyed hunting and playing cards and for a period of time spent winters working in Florida.
He is survived by his children Joyce Hunt and her husband Ray of Sheldon, Norman Snider and his significant other, Nancy West of Sheldon, and Gary Snider of Richford; his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Chad Snider his wife Tracy and their children, Ryan & Hayley of Richford, Christie Snider her friend Shawn Hogaboom and her children, Logan & Gage of Richford; and Michelles children, Breanna Paquette & Bailey Brunelle; a sister, Marguerite Warner and her husband Alvin of Lowell; sisters-in-law, Betsy Snider of Montgomery, Theresa B. Snider of Montgomery, and Theresa Snider of Richford; several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents, Edward was predeceased by his wife, Barbara (Wright) Snider on August 23, 2007. Edward & Barbara were married June 9, 1951 in Pine Camp, NY. He was also predeceased by a granddaughter, Michelle Snider, 7 brothers, Joseph, Albert, Raoul, Leland, Ernest, Clifford & Ralph Snider; and a sister, Mabel Baraw.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 19, 2010 at 12:00 PM at All Saints Catholic Church in Richford with Rev. Karl Hahr celebrating the Mass of Christian burial.
A time of visitation will be held Friday from 10:45 AM to 11:45 AM at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford.
