Edward Stumpf

November 12, 1928 — March 30, 2012

ST. ALBANS - Edward Murray Stumpf, age 83, passed comfortably from this life Friday, March 30, 2012 at the Vermont Respite House in Williston.

He was born November 12, 1928 in Hartford, CT the son of the late George Albert & Helen (Thorsell) Stumpf. He married Pauline Gates on July 28, 1949.

Ed has been a resident of St. Albans for the past 8 years and was a former resident of East Hartford, CT where along with his wife Polly and his brother George developed the East Hartford Golf Course in 1954 which they operated until they sold it in 1974. From 1974 to 1980 they lived in West Enosburg and during that time they owned the Pinecone Snack Bar in East Berkshire. During the time Ed worked for the Hart Seed Co. the resided in Quechee from 1980-1990 and then Thetford until they moved to St. Albans in 2004. Ed retired from the Hart Seed Co. at the age of 70 after 23 years.

Ed served in the U.S Marines during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post #42 of Enosburg Falls and the Golf Course Superintendents Association of Vermont. He enjoyed skiing, fishing, snowmobiling, and traveling, especially his trip to Alaska.

He is survived by his son, Scott Stumpf and his wife Mary Samson of St. Albans; his grandchildren, Jason Stumpf and wife Karen of Farmington, CT, Erick Stumpf and his wife Jessica of Essex, VT , and Abbi Negro and her husband Scott of Rotterdam, NY; Ed was very fond of his great grandchildren, Katherine, Caleb and Anna. Besides his parents, Ed was predeceased by his wife, Pauline (Gates) Stumpf. He was also predeceased by his son Mark Stumpf; his daughter-in-law, Lucy (Forucci) Stumpf; and his brother George Stumpf.

A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Middle Road, Franklin, VT with Rev. Jason McConnell officiating. There will be no visiting hours.
