SHELDON - Elsie M. Ellie Morton, age 70, passed away Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington with her husband and daughter by her side.

She was born in Port Townsend, Washington on November 29, 1943 the daughter of the late Manley and Augusta Bell (Erickson) Porter. Ellie was predeceased by her brothers, George and Albert and sisters, Barbara and Florence.

Ellie leaves behind her loving husband of 38 years, George Morton, U.S. Navy Retired of Sheldon; her daughter, Carla Barnes of Enosburg Falls; grandchildren, Damien Barnes of Rutland, Donald Barnes of Enosburg Falls and Sharlotte Race of E. Hardwick; 9 great grandchildren; her brothers, Percy Manley, Frank, Owen, James and Patrick Porter and their families all of Washington State and several nieces & nephews.

Ellie and George were united in marriage on October 2, 1976 at the U.S. Naval Construction Battalion Center in Port Hueneme, CA. As a Navy wife, Ellie traveled by her husbands side throughout his 20 year career; to numerous duty stations in the United States and a tour in Australia. Ellie was a proud Seabee wife and Navy wife who loved the Navy as much as her husband did.

She loved to cook, bake and make jams and jellies. Her favorite past-times were reading a good book, collecting cook books and going to yard sales. She loved the holidays; her favorite being Thanksgiving and cooking a 40 pound native Vermont Turkey, surrounded by family and friends.

Now we need to remember Ellie Morton for who she was and what she was. A happy go lucky person that lived each day to the fullest. She is now at peace with the Lord, And her journey has just begun.
