ENOSBURG FALLS - Ernest Joseph Benoit, age 83, passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Our Lady of the Meadows - St. Josephs Unit in Richford with his family at his side. Ernest has been a resident of Our Lady of the Meadows for the past 10 months where the staff has been especially helpful to his family who are very thankful for the special care provided to him.
He was born November 19, 1926 in St. Albans Bay, VT the son of the late Georges & Corana (Paquette) Benoit.
Ernest attended Highgate Elementary School. He purchased a farm in Enosburg Falls in 1951 which he operated for 10 years. He then became a barn equipment distributor in Franklin County and surrounding areas for Lajoie, Clay & Dynavent companies for 25 years retiring in 1987. Ernest was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
He enjoyed vacationing with his family and fishing with his grandchildren. He will be remembered as a compassionate person who was always ready to lend a hand. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Fernande (Lataille) Benoit of Enosburg Falls. Ernest & Fernande were married October 6, 1951. He is also survived by his children, Carole Benoit of Swanton, and Michael Benoit of Burlington; his grandson, Jason Doe his fiance Shawna Vincent of Berkshire and his son, Jacob Sandvil; 2 brothers, Andre Benoit and his wife Marie Blanche of Chicopee, MA, and Claude Benoit of Quebec; 2 sisters, Helene Benoit of St. Bridget, Que., and Georgette Benoit and her husband Yvon Marcotte of Farnham, Que.; a sister-in-law, Therese Benoit of Cowansville, Que; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Ernest was predeceased by his granddaughter, Kristen A. Doe on March 24, 2005; his siblings, Alma Benoit and her husband Roland Delorme, Maria Benoit and her husband Gaston Robitaille, Cecile Brian and her husband Cesaire, Albert Benoit, Clement Benoit, Yvonne Laroche and her husband Roland, Jeannette Benoit, Jacques Benoit, Marcel Paquette and Germaine Benoit
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 10:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Enosburg Falls with Rev. Daniel Jordan celebrating the Mass of Christian burial. Friends and relatives are invited to gather prior to the Mass at the Spears Funeral Home on Saturday from 8:45 AM to 9:45 AM
Visiting hours will be held Friday evening from 5-8 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.
