FRANKLIN - Ernest David Lamson, age 72, passed away Thursday December 8, 2011 at St. Albans Health & Rehab in St. Albans.
Ernie was born October 3, 1939 in South Burlington the son of the late Rollin C. & Bertha (Metcalf) Lamson.
Ernie was a resident of Franklin for the past several years. He was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Franklin and the American Legion Post # 42 in Enosburg Falls. Ernest entered the Vermont Army National Guard in 1962 and had a total of 23 years of service. He was a former member of the Vermont State Guard.
Ernie worked as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator for International Harvester, J&B International and the Town of Milton Highway Dept. He also worked in maintenance for the Vermont State Prisons and State Office Building in St. Albans.
He had a great love of trains and enjoyed working on and collecting John Deere Tractors, driving the grandkids and neighborhood kids around in his self-made wagons, gardening and donating the fruits of his labor to the Franklin Homestead as well as helping his neighbor Cecil King at the Enosburg Farmers Market. He also enjoyed the companionship of his cats. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, ice fishing and square dancing.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Sandra (Bailey) Lamson of Franklin; his children, Brian & Abigail Garvey and their children; his step-children, Margo Monigle her husband Ed, Michael Ledoux his friend Linda all of Marion, NC, and Marie Benoit and her husband Eric of Fairfax; his step-grandchildren, Donna & David Parker, Charlene, Michael & Timothy Ledoux, and Teia & Sierra Benoit; his brother, R. Clark Lamson and his wife Donalee of St. Albans; his sister, Rosamond Pariseau and her husband Edmund of Stafford, VA; his aunt, Elizabeth Taille of Fairport, NY; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Ernie was predeceased by a step-daughter, Michelle Missy Ledoux.
A memorial Mass will be held Friday December 16, 2011 at 11:00 AM at St. Marys Catholic Church, Square Road, Franklin with Rev. Roger Charbonneau celebrating the Mass of Christian burial. Interment with military honors will follow in the St. Marys Cemetery in Franklin. The family will receive friends following the memorial services at the Post #42 American Legion Hall on Depot St. in Enosburg Falls.
