RICHFORD, VT - Ethel May (Pardee) Goodrow, daughter of the late Belle Tilford & Fred Pardee. She was born on July 9, 1916 and joined her heavenly Father on March 8, 2011 at the age of 94. Ethel made her home with and was cared for by her dearest friend Gwen. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Joseph Goodrow in 1976 and her step-grandson Stephen in 2009.
Ethel lived a number of years in Danbury, CT next door to Gwen & Norman Fletcher who she then moved to Richford, VT with. She resided with Gwen & Norman for the past 18 years and while in Connecticut she was the Fletcher childrens Nanny as well as their neighbor, leaving a bond that has lasted over 40 years.
Ethel loved kids, her dogs, crocheting, gardening, books (she was an avid reader), having a good time and collecting angels. She loved the beauty of and symbolism of angels and felt she was blessed with friends she called her Angels. Her best memories of her senior years were those spent at The Country School as a Foster Grandparent. Even when she was in the hospital and in Rehab she shared her pictures and memories of the kids she loved so much. During her reign as Foster Grandparent from 1993 to 1999 on of her biggest events was having her picture taken with the then Governor, Howard Dean.
Ethel was loved by everyone she met. She never hesitated when it came to expressing love and affection. You could always count on a hug and being told she loved you, if you had anything to do with her life you were loved. She was strong willed and never gave up or gave in to discouraging time. She had a lot of physical pain but was rarely sick, she never gave up. Ethel was a wonderful woman who will be missed by all who loved her.
She leaves behind a dear step daughter, Justine Kenny and her husband Dennis and their family of Connecticut; a step daughter, Patricia Murphy and her family of New York; a niece, Sandy Berger of Washington. She also leaves behind many friends in Connecticut who thought the world of her. In Richford she leaves her closest friend, Gwen Fletcher who she thought of as a sister and Gwens husband Norman. She also leaves another dear friend, Shirley Fletcher who shared the Country School together and the years since. The also shared a love of angels and music boxes.
In keeping with Ethels wishes services will be private and she will be buried next to her husband in the Wooster Cemetery in Danbury, CT.
