Fairfield, VT - Evelyn A.(Ryea) Gleason, 49, a resident of the Barry Road in Fairfield passed away at her home on Sunday, September 7, 2008, surrounded by her loving family.
Evelyn was born on December 7, 1958 in St. Albans, VT, the daughter of Harry E. and Shirley (Chaplin) Ryea, Sr.
Evelyn was an independent, self reliant woman who had lived in Fairfield all of her life. She was a devoted wife, supportive mother and committed employee.
A barefooted free thinker, Evelyn grew up in the back hills of Fairfield and attended Fairfield schools. She was a 1977 graduate of BFA in St. Albans. Evelyns second marriage was to Carl W. Gleason of Bakersfield on September 7, 1985 and they built her home on the Barry Road in Fairfield, known as Fort Evelyn.
A matriarch to all males, Evelyn became a football mom, baseball mom, basketball mom, lacrosse mom, rugger mom and, her most difficult, a boxing mom. Evelyn stood proudly
and busting at the seams as Danny graduated Boot Camp as a U.S. Marine in Parris Island, SC. She stood firmly until Thomas completed his certificates at SUNY Canton and reminded quietly to Benjamin all his requirements needed to complete his schooling at Castleton State in the spring of 2009.
For ten years Evelyn worked as Accounts Payable for the terrific, International, high technology, manufacturing company of Huber & Suhner in Essex. Evelyn was greatly appreciated, relied on and committed at Huber & Suhner. Evelyn deeply hated leaving H&S when she became sick.
Surviving are Evelyns husband Carl W. Gleason of Fairfield; her mother Shirley Ryea of Fairfield; sons Danny Lee Farr, Jr. and his daughter Kyrah Farr of Franklin, Benjamin C. Gleason and Thomas H. Gleason both of Fairfield; her brothers Harry Ryea, Jr. of Berkshire and Henry Ryea of Greensville, SC. and her sisters Luna Clark of Highsprings, FL and Susan Bergeron of Enosburg Falls. Evelyn was predeceased by her father Harry Ryea, Sr.
In keeping with Evelyns wishes there will be no services or calling hours. Her ashes will be divided among her boys to be disposed of according to their wishes.
Should friends desire, gifts in Evelyns memory may be made to the Fairfield Fire Department, c/o 3545 VT Rt. 36, Fairfield, VT 05455, who, with the efforts of Tim Corey and others in the department, assisted in saving Evelyns life on December 19, 2007.
