ST. ALBANS - Faustine T. Garrow, RN, age 86, Our Mom passed away on Wednesday morning January 27, 2010 after a brief period of declining health.
She was born March 31, 1923 in Richford the daughter of the late Ethan R. & Dazel (Shangraw) Thompson.
Faustine was a 1941 graduate of Richford High School. She attended the St. Albans Hospital School of Nursing graduating in 1944. On October 31, 1945 she married the love of her life, Richard Garrow who predeceased her on June 27, 1984. They resided in St. Albans where Faustine worked as a private duty nurse for several area families and also at the St. Albans Hospital. Once she started raising her family she took time away from nursing and helped her husband who was employed at the Hicks Funeral Home. In 1954 Faustine & Richard moved to Essex Junction. She went back to nursing in 1968 as a floor nurse and then charge nurse in the I.C.U. at the Fanny Allen Hospital in Colchester, retiring after many years of dedicated service.
Faustine enjoyed spending her winters in Winter Haven, FL and her summers at Lake Carmi. She also enjoyed many years of skiing with her family at Smugglers Notch. She was a sports enthusiast and avid golfer. She loved to watch her favorite teams, the Boston Red Sox and the New York Giants.
Faustine was a member of the Enosburg Falls Red Hats. She enjoyed reading and knitting, especially for her grandchildren and the new born babies at the Winter Haven Hospital.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan Martel and her husband Christopher of Richford, and Stephanie Garrow of St. Albans; her grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Jessica Shurlow and her husband Scott of Rutland, Joseph Shepard of Burlington, and Nicholas Garrow Randos of Manchester, NH; her nephew, Rick Thompson his wife Sue and their family of Jay; seven step grandchildren, and four step great grandchildren; several cousins. Besides her parents and husband, Faustine was predeceased by her brother E. Rockwood Thompson.
Faustines family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Terri Nielsen, Dr. Stewart Manchester, nursing and staff at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, staff at the St. Albans Health Care & Rehab Facility, Tom Cook and his staff at the Spears Funeral Home, and all of our family & friends for their love and support.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls with Pastor Lyle Willey officiating. Interment will take place this spring in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Enosburg Falls.
A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 PM until the hour of the funeral.
