ENOSBURG FALLS - Fern Esther Perley, age 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, March 24, 2010 at Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford.
She was born May 12, 1921 in Montgomery Center the daughter of the late Rawson & Ethel (Smith) Simmons.
Fern was a resident of Enosburg Falls most of her life and was a 1938 graduate of Enosburg Falls High School. She was an associate member of the Montgomery Center Community Baptist Church. She was also a longtime member of the Enosburgh Center Memorial Congregational Church. More recently she attended the Richford Baptist Church.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Martha Washington Chapter, Franklin County Republican Committee, Enosburgh Center Cemetery Association, Ladies Cribbage League at the American Legion, and the former L.V.I.S in Enosburg Falls. She had served as Auditor for the Village of Enosburg Falls, Town of Enosburgh, and the Enosburg Falls School District.
Fern will be remembered as being a wonderful cook, a talent that she enjoyed passing down to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards, knitting, listening to religious music, watching the afternoon soaps on TV, playing piano and doing puzzles.
She is survived by her children, Stephen J. Perley and his wife Carolyn of Enosburgh, Peter Perley and his companion Roberta Morin of Enosburg Falls, and Marilyn Sue Pearce and her husband Albert Chuck of Richford; her grandchildren, Deborah Cook and her husband Thomas, Stephen J. Perley II and his wife Lori, Timothy Perley, and Melissa St. Pierre and her husband Jason all of Enosburgh; her great grandchildren, Nicholas & Matthew Perley, Dawson Perley, and Emma St.Pierre; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Perley) Carr of Waterbury; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Fern was predeceased by her husband, Merrill E. Perley on August 5, 1997; her great grandson, Thomas S. Cook on November 21, 2001; her brothers, Ralph, Clyde & Malcolm Simmons; and her sisters, Edith Coyne, Nancy Retell, Evelyn Clark, and Ruth Sharpe.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 29, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Richford Baptist Church with Pastor Lyle Willey officiating. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Enosburgh Center Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 1-4 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls.
