SWANTON - Fernande M. Tougas, age 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at the Holiday House in St. Albans.
She was born in Ste. Hyacinthe, Quebec on September 13, 1924 to the late Joseph O. & Cecilia (Bernard) Rainville.
Fernande was one of 15 children. She married Rosaire in 1949 and started a family of their own. She took pride in having a strong work ethic and raising her children while running the family farm with her husband for over 20 years. Fernande was very active in the Church of the Nativity. She was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and was involved in religious education for many years. When she wasnt working, she loved gardening. Later in life, she enjoyed visiting local nursing homes and sharing her faith and prayer with residents.
She is survived by her children, Marcel Tougas of Swanton, Cecile Beauregard and her husband, Daniel of Franklin; son-in-law, Charles St. Germaine; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brothers, Jean-Guy Rainville and his wife, Fernande, Gilles Rainville and his wife, Claudette; sister, Theresa Poquette; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Fernande was predeceased by her husband, Rosaire in 1990; her daughter, Claire St. Germaine in 2018; daughter-in-law, Kathleen Tougas in 2016; siblings, Madeline Quintin, Mary Paule Langelier, Imelda Tougas, Noella Rainville, Robert, Harvey, Bernard, Paul Emile, Gaston, Jean Louis, and Laurent Rainville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Nativity, 65 Canada Street, Swanton. Interment will follow in the St. Marys Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday at Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Avenue, Swanton from 9:30-10:30AM.
