ENOSBURG FALLS / SHELDON - Ferne A. Arel, age 87, went home to the Lord on Saturday evening, March 27, 2010 at the St. Albans Health Care & Rehab Center in St. Albans. Ferne had resided for 30 + years in Sheldon prior to moving to Enosburg Falls.
She was born in Montgomery on April 7, 1922 the daughter of the late Homer & Dorothy (Longe) Baker.
Ferne was employed at Union Carbide for 26 years, retiring in 1981. She was a former member of the Sheldon United Methodist Church. Ferne will be remembered for her many talents from tap dancing, playing the harmonica, writing poetry and a variety of crafts, but she will mostly be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor.
Surviving are her daughter and her husband, Susan & Thomas Sawyer of Fletcher; two grandchildren and their partners Tom Sawyer and Ellen Bethea and BillieSue Sawyer and Lonnie McAdoo; two great grandchildren Mason and Sirena Sawyer; her brother and his wife Billy and Debby Baker and a daughter-in-law and her husband Sharron and Lee West. In addition to her husband Bill, Ferne was predeceased by her son Billy as well as many brothers and sisters.
At Fernes request, a private family service will be held at the Spears Funeral Home in Enosburg Falls with interment to follow in the Sheldon Village Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
