ENOSBURG FALLS - Florence Adeline Nolan, age 100, passed away Wednesday evening February 9, 2011 at the St. Albans Health Care Facility in St. Albans surrounded by love and prayers.
She was born April 3, 1910 in Fairfield the daughter of the late Gordon & Eva (LaFountain) Marshia.
Florence was educated in Belvidere where her family had moved to work in a logging operation. She married Francis A. Nolan and they began their farming life in 1942. Florences life would change again when she and her husband began to run the Sheldon Poor Farm for 25 years. Florence retired from care giving at the age of 92 in her Enosburg Falls residence.
Florences family fondly remembers the many feasts at her home during the holidays. She was known for her homemade rolls, pies and buckeyes. Her children & grandchildren were blessed to receive one of her handmade quilts.
She is survived by her children, Frances Green of Enosburg Falls and Arnold Lagrow of East Franklin; a daughter-in-law, Amelia Nolan of Enosburgh; 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Florence was predeceased by a son, Leo Nolan; a daughter, Patricia Chadwick; a granddaughter, Stella Blaney; a daughter-in-law, Diana Lagrow;a son-in-law, Richard I. Green Sr.; a sister, Grace Larose; and 3 brothers, Henry, Sidney & Louis Marshia.
Florences family wished to thank St. Albans Health Care and the Spears Funeral Home for their care given to Florence and her family.
A graveside memorial service will be held this spring in St. Anthonys Cemetery in Sheldon. There will be no visiting hours.
