Frederick Lovelette

November 20, 1920 — February 18, 2010

RICHFORD - Frederick Newton Lovelette, age 89, passed away Thursday morning February 18, 2010 in the care of his family and the special caregivers at Our Lady of the Meadows in Richford.

He was born in Richford on November 20, 1920 the son of Marshall & Susan (Thompson) Lovelette. Fred was one of six children. He graduated from Richford High School in 1938.

He married Barbara Stanhope on September 2, 1946 and they celebrated 60 years of marriage. Barbara predeceased Fred on October 28, 2006.

Shortly after high school Fred joined the U.S. Navy and then was transferred to the Merchant Marines in 1943 and became a steam engineer at sea. In 1945 Fred was inducted back into the Navy and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. Once again he was honorably discharged as a Seaman Second Class in August 1946. Fred was a devoted life member of the American Legion Post # 12 of Richford where he held several positions including Commander and Vice Commander.

Freds work was everything to him. During his life, Fred worked at a number of local jobs including Fonda Container as a machine operator. He then was trained as a machinist at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, VT where he worked from 1965 until he retired in 1982. During that time he stayed in Springfield, MA during the week and drove home to Vermont and his family on the weekends. After retiring from Pratt & Whitney, Fred returned to Vermont and continued to work several different jobs including being the boiler operator at Sweat Comings Furniture Co. until the factory closed at which point Fred finally ended his work career.

Fred loved to fish, play cribbage and dance with his lovely wife. He also enjoyed high performance cars and especially having fun in life.

Fred is survived by his children, Michael Lovelette and his wife Mary of Brandon; Bruce Lovelette and his wife Pamela of Berkshire, and Patricia Broe and her husband Brian Pete of Richford; his grandchildren, Stephanie Lovelette, Jennifer Lovelette, Christopher Lovelette, Heather (Broe) Bapp and her husband Chad, and Jessica Broe; 2 great grandchildren, beloved Chelsea Byrne with whom Fred a very special relationship with, and Jaylynn Bapp; his brother, Neil Buddy Lovelette and his companion Gloria Spencer of Stanhope, NJ; sisters, Lillian Beth Wilde of Essex, and Mary Jane Adley of Newtown, PA; and sisters-in-law, Ruth Lovelette of Swanton, and Kathleen Lovelette of Yarmouth, MA; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, Fred was predeceased by his brothers, Charles & Marshall Lovelette.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford with Rev. Reid Farrell officiating. Interment will take place this spring in the Berkshire Center Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Monday from 5-7 PM at the Spears Funeral Home in Richford.
