FRANKLIN - Gabriel J. Godin, age 82, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at his home in Franklin.
He was born in Frelighsburg, Quebec on November 6, 1933 to the late Leonard & Helen (Hamelin) Godin.
Gabriels life consisted of many skills and talents to include: working on his fathers farm and delivering
Apples to suppliers when he was living in Canada. After he moved to the states he continued working for
several farmers before farming for himself. He was a member of the Berkshire Volunteer Fire Dept. For over 20 years he sold firewood, he also produced maple syrup and trucked feed & supplies for several local farmers. In the 1980s Gabriel and Flaurette started a business called Little Peoples World in which they manufactured doll furniture and other wood products; they enjoyed traveling around the craft show circuits and working Santas Caravan for over 20 years.
In Gabriels younger years he loved to play hockey, and as an adult his hobbies included hunting, snowmobiling and ice fishing with his friends Arthur and Laurie Bugbee. His biggest enjoyment was playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren; especially giving them rides on Jazzy his red scooter. Gabriel was always willing to help others and his family was a very important part of his life.
He is survived by his wife Flaurette, who was a very important part of his life for almost 60 years; their children, Monique Godin of Franklin and her daughter Gabrielle and partner Mazner, Mark Sr. and his wife Maria (Nazario) of Berkshire, their children Christina, Mark Jr. and Melanie, Colette Montgomery and her husband Glenn of Fairfield and their children Kerry her fianc Tom, and Chad, Norman Godin and partner Susan Wilson of Berkshire and their children Kitty and Lee and his wife Nicole (Loiselle), Denis Godin his wife Donna (Bartsch) of Essex and his Children Nathan and Andrea; great grandchildren, Teah, Justice, Arianna, Mazrielle, Lyric, Liberty, Montana, Marcel Jr., Syrus, Colton and Lauretta; his siblings, Marius & Hugette Godin, Robert & Lise Godin, Yolande Godin, Jeannette & Claude Raymond, Cecile Allaire, Desneige & Gerald Millette, Jacinthe & Fred Guilbeault, Marielle Godin and Germaine Godin all of Quebec; sisters-in-law, Marthe Godin of Quebec, Doris Laroche of St. Albans and Rosanna Paquette of Swanton and several nieces, nephews and friends. Besides his parents, Gabriel was predeceased by a brother, Andre Godin; his sisters, Lorraine Lariviere and Danielle Lariviere and brothers-in-law, Claude Montagne, Normand Allaire, Clement Laroche and Maurice Paquette.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Spears Funeral Home. 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery in Richford.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 12:00 PM until the hour of the service.
