Gardner Wetherby

October 24, 1939 — February 20, 2008

RICHFORD - Gardner George Wetherby, age 68, passed away Wednesday evening February 20, 2008 at the Northwestern medical Center with his loving family at his side following a long courageous battle with cancer.

Gardner was born October 24, 1939 in Montgomery the son of the late George & Bessie (Longe) Wetherby.

Gardner was a resident of Richford most of his life where he was employed at Sweat Comings Furniture Factory for 35 years retiring at their closure and prior to that he worked at several area dairy farms. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was well known for his hand made sinkers. He especially liked to spend time at his camp in Woodpecker Village.

He is survived by his children, Carl Wetherby and his wife Marina of Richford, Christine Bailey and her husband Stanley of Baxley, GA, Judy Wetherby and her fianc Jason Bryce of Richford, Arthur Wetherby and his companion Tonya Cummings of St. Albans, Jason Wetherby and his wife Marie of Richford, and Travis Wetherby and his wife Kimberly of Richford; his grandchildren, Jeremy, Ashley, Jordan, Jarred, Jayce, Teri, Tori, Nicholas, Meagan, Austin, Nikita and Trent; his siblings, John Wetherby of Richford, Gretchen Kittell and her husband Blaine, and Anita Friot all of Berkshire; a sister-in-law, Brenda Deslandes of Jay; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by 3 brothers, Glenford, Clifton & Jack Wetherby.

A memorial service will be held Sunday February 24, 2008 at 5:00 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford with Pastor Patrick Hoadley officiating. There will be no visiting hours.
