ENOSBURG FALLS - George William Deaette, age 81, passed away unexpectedly Thursday morning September 8, 2011 at the Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans.
He was born January 21, 1930 in Enosburgh the son of the late Birney & Ida May (Duso) Deaette.
George was a lifelong resident of Enosburg Falls. He was employed for the Vermont Department of Transportation for 42 years retiring in 1990. George dedicated 15 years after his retirement to maintaining the Missisquoi Rest Area in Sheldon which was renamed the George Deaette Picnic Area at the Missisquoi Campground. He was a member of the Enosburgh Historical Society and enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing softball.
He is survived by his wife, Helen (Cummings) Deaette of Enosburg Falls. George & Helen were married on June 23, 1950. He is also survived by his children, Gary Deaette and his wife Joanne of Enosburgh, Sheryl Reader and her husband Todd of South Hero, Nancy Koenig of Enosburg Falls, Wendy Deaette of West Palm, FL., and Cindy Deaette of St. Albans; 13 grandchildren & 15 Great Grandchildren; 1 niece and her husband, Mary & William Branthoover of Ft. Meyers, FL.; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Gerald & Beverly Cummings of Pigeon Hill, Quebec Canada. Besides his parents, George was predeceased by a brother, Frank Deaette.
A memorial service will be held Sunday September 11, 2011 at 3:00 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 96 Dickinson Ave., Enosburg Falls with Pastor Patrick Hoadley officiating. Interment will follow in the Missisquoi Cemetery in Enosburg Falls.
A time of visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00PM until the hour of the funeral.
