BETHLEHEM, PA - George M. Kernan Jr., age 93, passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at his daughters home in Montgomery, Vermont.
He was born in Savannah, GA on March 12, 1925 to the late George Sr. & Elizabeth (Skinker) Kernan.
George was raised in The Plains, VA. He attended Woodbury Forest Prep School and graduated with his bachelors degree from Ohio State University. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a paratrooper. George married Anna (Moore) on November 19, 1956. He was in the tire business for most of his life; he worked as a salesman for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and later ran his own business, Lehigh Valley Tire in Bethlehem. He was very active in his church, the Cathedral Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, and taught Sunday School for many years. After retirement, George and Anna spilt their time between Bethlehem, PA and Cape Coral, FL, this allowed them to enjoy their passion for golf.
He is survived by his daughter, Maryanne Wood of Montgomery, VT; two grandchildren, Jared Radtkey of Oakland, CA, and Jessica Kernan and her son, Quinn Higginson of New Zealand. Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his wife, Anna Kernan; his daughter, Barbara Kernan; and son-in-law, Edwin Wood.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Cathedral Church of the Nativity, 321 Wyandotte St., Bethlehem, PA.
