Gloria Denton

STOWE – Gloria B. Denton passed away peacefully on Friday, October 20, 2023 at The Villa Rehab Center in St. Albans.  She was 87 years old.

Born in Stowe on July 3, 1936 to the late Robert and Odella (Charbonneau) Salvas, Gloria was the middle child and eldest daughter of five siblings.  She attended Stowe High School where she played basketball and enjoyed many friendships. 

After graduating from high school in 1954, Gloria attended Burlington Business College and then worked locally as a secretary.  She married Robert Denton at the Blessed Sacrament Church on October 27, 1956.  They continued to live in Stowe where they raised their two sons.  She eventually returned to work and spent over 20 years serving as Assistant to the Town Clerk before retiring in 2001.

Throughout the years Gloria enjoyed traveling, gardening, knitting, crocheting, reading, dancing, bowling, playing cards, and socializing.  She volunteered as a Boy Scout leader when her sons were young and was an active member of the Stowe Legion Auxiliary and Stowe Alumni Association.  She was feisty, strong-willed, and independent, and she exhibited these traits to the very end.

Gloria is survived by her two sons, Gary of Bakersfield and his close friend Mary Bates and Gregg and his wife Tammy of Essex; grandchildren, Katelyn and her finance Patrick DiRico, Logan and her significant other Cody Robtoy, Thomas, and Meghan; great granddaughters, Aspen and Salor; brother, Richard Salvas and his wife Jennifer of Old Saybrook, CT; sister, Kathleen Kneale of Stowe; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Gloria was predeceased by her husband, Robert Denton, on June 9, 2008; brothers, Edward Salvas and Walter Salvas; brother-in-law, David Kneale; and sister-in-law, Ann Salvas.

The Denton family is grateful for the compassionate care the nurses and staff at The Villa Rehab Center gave Gloria during her final days, and is especially thankful for the care, kindness, and attention provided by Dawn, Lesleigh, and Hailee.  A private graveside service will be held at Riverbend Cemetery in Stowe at the convenience of the family.
