Harold Johnson

RICHFORD - Harold Durwood Johnson, age 86, passed away on Saturday, February 15th, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Sheldon on January 6, 1939 to the late Harold E. & Winona Johnson. Harold married Phyllis (Simpson) on May 10, 1963.

Harold lived a life filled with hard work and passion. He was a skilled logger, well known for his expertise in operating bulldozers and skidders throughout his many years in forestry. Harold worked for Norbert Bergeron and his son-in-law, Asa. He also worked in construction, where he contributed to significant projects, including the iconic Jay Road that winds over the mountain. He even worked at Jay Peak, where he became the trusted operator of the Snow Cat groomer, contributing to the joy of countless skiers.

In retirement, Harold embraced his role as the caretaker of the Richford Center Cemetery. He filled this position with the same love and dedication he brought to all his endeavors, ensuring the beauty and serenity of the final resting place for loved ones and friends. Beyond his work, Harold enjoyed restoring antique tractors, trout fishing, riding his four-wheeler, and playing his guitar.

Harold is survived by his two daughters, Bonnie Wilson and her husband Asa Jr., and Laura Royea and her significant other Gary Walker; seven grandchildren, Hannah Wilson and her significant other Jessie, Amanda Wilson, Sarah Wilson and her significant other Tony, Crystal Royea and her significant other Mikel, Deanna Royea and her significant other Myron, Lacey Longe and her husband John, and Kevin Royea Jr.; 14 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; his sister, Charlotte Burnham; and several nieces & nephews. In addition to his parents, Harold was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis (Simpson) Johnson; a special grandson, SGT Joshua Johnson; great grandson, Aven Royea; son-in-law, Kevin Royea Sr.; sister, Elaine Johnson; brother-in-law, Murelle Burnham; and nephew, David Burnham.

He was cared for at home by a special granddaughter, Sarah and great grandson, Asa.

Friends & family are invited to Harold's life celebration on Thursday, February 20. 2025 to include visitation from 4-5:00 PM followed with a funeral service at 5:00 PM at the Goss-Spears Life Celebration Home, 96 Dickinson Avenue, Enosburg Falls, VT. Interment will be held this spring in the Richford Center Cemetery.
