Harold "Pinky" Thompson

RICHFORD - Harold Leon Pinky Thompson, age 85, husband of Helen (Desroches) Thompson, passed away Wednesday November 24, 2010 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington with his loving family at his side.

Harold was born May 19, 1925 in Burlington the son of the late Leon & Mary (Berry) Thompson.

Harold entered the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 serving from 1942 to 1945 during WWII. Upon his honorable discharge he came back to Richford and served as an apprentice for Calders Plumbing & Heating eventually becoming a certified plumber. He then moved to Pinehurst, North Carolina where he worked with his brother as the head bellmens for the Carolina Hotel where they both met their wives. Following his marriage to Helen Desroches on December 27, 1950 in Pinehurst, North Carolina they moved to Allentown, PA for a short period, where he worked as the manager & buyer for Hess Bros. Dept. Store. They then moved to Concord, NH where he attended barbers college and worked at Helens fathers barber shop before moving back to Richford in 1966. Once back in Richford, he owned and operated The Main Street Barber Shop, a foral shop and an antique shop. He also worked for the Amie Funeral Home.

Harold was a founding member of the Richford Ambulance Service along with Bob Frechette and Bernard Harvey. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and the American Legion Post # 12 of Richford.

Harold enjoyed following world news especially politics. He was an industrious man who loved to work with his hands refinishing furniture and restoring the houses he lived in. He was most proud of his family and his home with a perfect view of Pinnacle Mountain. He was a wonderful man who will be greatly missed.

Harold is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Helen Thompson of Richford. He is also survived by a son, Daniel Thompson of Richford; daughters, Candy Barbeau and her friend Byron Gronvold of Key West, FL, Mandy Guilmette and her husband Jody of Richford, Jenny Stryker and her husband John of Richford, and Samantha Thompson of Montgomery ; his grandchildren, Damian and his friend Amber, Taylor, Lindsy, Megan, Macey, Christina, Steven, Jay, Sarah, Matthew, Karl & Danielle; his brother and his wife, Hollis & Peggy Thompson of Southern Pines, NC; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Harold was predeceased by a grandson, Andrew Thompson on November 26, 1995; and a son-in-law, Jeffrey Barbeau on October 26, 1991.

Funeral services will be held Monday November 29, 2010 at 11:00 AM at All Saints Catholic Church, Main St., Richford with Rev. Karl Hahr celebrating the Mass of Christian burial. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in All Saints Cemetery in Richford.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 3-5 PM at the Spears Funeral Home, 140 Main St., Richford
