EAST BERKSHIRE, VT / RED OAK, IA - Harold P. Vest, age 93, passed away Monday, January 9, 2017 at the St. Albans Health & Rehab Center.
He was born December 2, 1923 in Kirkman, Iowa to the late Ralph and Lenore (McGee) Vest.
Harold graduated from Red Oak High School in Iowa and then joined the U.S. Army in 1943. He served in Germany during World War II in the 78th Division of the 311th Regiment of the Infantry under General Parker. Following his discharge in 1946 he married Gloria Ann Murray on September 18th. Harold worked several jobs before starting at the Union Carbide Company in 1948. He retired in 1985 after 37 years with the company; 3 of those years were spent at their St. Albans, Vermont location.
He was a member and former treasurer of All Angels Episcopal Church in Red Oak, Iowa. Harold spent the past 5 years living in Vermont. He attended St. Matthews Episcopal Church and the Enosburg Falls United Methodist Church. Harold was also a former member of the Red Oak Country Club and Eagles Club of Iowa and a current member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his children, Jon Vest and his wife Rhonda of Omaha, NE and Mary Larivee and her husband Larry of East Berkshire, VT; his grandchildren, Jason Robtoy and his wife Lara of Enosburg Falls, VT, Adam Robtoy and his wife Mary of Barre, VT, Colin Vest of Marion, NC, Erin Sloan and her fianc Shane Rhian of Omaha, NE and Kristin Morgan and her husband Mick of Omaha, NE; 8 great grandchildren, Nathaniel, Lillian, Annalise, Colleen, Kellen, Elliot, Josslyn and Harrison; brother-in-law, Jarrette Murray and his wife Margaret of Council Bluffs, IA and several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents, Harold was predeceased by his wife, Gloria Vest; his son, James Vest and his siblings, Opal Foy and Max Vest.
A graveside memorial service will be held in the spring in Iowa.
