Harvey Bruner

June 17, 1922 — April 10, 2011

ESSEX JUNCTION - Harvey Esco Bruner Jr. age 88, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the Starr Farm Nursing Center in Burlington.

He was born June 17, 1922 in Luttrell, Tennessee the son of the late Harvey Esco & Eva (Chapman) Bruner.

Harvey had been a resident of Essex Junction for the past 11 years and was a former resident of South Burlington. He drove tractor trailer for Holmes Transportation for 30 years. He served as a Boy Scout leader in South Burlington for several years. He enjoyed hunting, bowling and family camping trips. He also enjoyed returning home to Tennessee every April to see the Dogwood, Redbud & Azaleas in bloom.

Harvey was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII serving with the First Special Service Force The Devils Brigade , an elite group of Americans & Canadians. He served in the European African & Middle Eastern Theatre and also the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. Harvey received three Purple Hearts, 3 Bronze Stars, 1 Silver Star among several other awards. He was also proud of his American & Canadian Jump Wings and his American Glider Wings.

Harvey volunteered at the Vermont Military Museum at Camp Johnson and had been a guest speaker several times at the Mountain Warfare School.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joyce M. (Flanders) Bruner of Essex Junction. Harvey & Joyce were married on December 30, 1945. He is also survived by 3 sons, Dennis Bruner his wife Lucy of Mt. Home, TX / Berkshire, VT, Rodney Bruner and wife Cindy of Underhill, and Timothy Bruner of Colchester; 6 grandchildren, Shana, Kylynn, Nathan, Travis, Ben & Michelle Bruner; 1 great grandson, Logan Bruner; his step mother, Mamie Lapardo, Melrose Park, IL; a half-brother, John Bruner of Villa Park, IL; a half-sister, Stella Reckamp of Davis, IL several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Harvey was predeceased by a daughter, Kelly Ann Bruner on July 12, 2009.

Harveys family wishes to thank the Doctor and staff at Starr Farm Nursing Center for the care provided to Harvey.

Funeral services will be held Friday April 15, 2011 at 2:00 PM at the Ready Funeral Home, 261 Shelburne Road, Burlington. Interment with military honors will follow in the Resurrection Park Cemetery, 200 Hinesburg Road, So. Burlington.

A time of visitation will be held on Friday from 12:00 PM until the hour of the funeral at the Ready Funeral Home.
