SWANTON – Harvey J. Amilhat, age 95, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2021 at the Holiday House Residential Care Home in St. Albans.
He was born in Highgate on July 17, 1925 to the late William & Ida (Garceau) Amilhat.
Harvey married his soulmate and life partner, Eileen “Sis” (Hakey) on July 11, 1953. Harvey was a member of the Swanton Village Fire Department for 37 years and also proudly held the position of Fire Chief. Harvey dedicated his working life to Swanton. He held many positions, including the head of the village and town public works, meter reader, and the water treatment plant. He retired at the age of 75. He and Sis never had children but considered and treated their beloved Dachshunds like their children. Harvey and Sis looked forward to their yearly trips to Florida together. Harvey will be missed by all who knew him and recognized his black F150, traveling the streets of Swanton. He is now reunited with his beautiful wife, whom he’s missed for the past seven years.
He is survived by his sisters, Elizabeth Root of Swanton, and Irene Allen of MI; several special nieces and nephews and their families; sister-in-law, Bernice Hakey of Swanton; and many friends and acquaintances in the town of Swanton. Besides his parents, Harvey was predeceased by his wife, Eileen on September 9, 2013; brother, Armand Amilhat; brother-in-law and best friend, Frank Hakey and many close friends.
In keeping with Harvey’s wishes, interment will be private and take place on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the Highgate Center Cemetery.
